Salt (NaCL) is extracted at three locations in the Netherlands: Twente, Groningen (Zuidwending and Heiligerlee) and Friesland (Franekeradeel). Annual production in 2007 amounted to almost 6,200 kilotonnes of salt. Magnesium salt is also extracted at Veendam, of which the annual production in 2007 amounted to 300 kton.
